The Intake Process

The New Directions intake process begins with scheduling the initial intake appointment, by phone or in person. The Intake Department staff will conduct a brief screening with the client, or with the referral source, and a primary counselor will be assigned. All clients referred to New Directions will receive initial intake appointments with 48 hours of their call, if not sooner.

The Intake Process Consists of:

	A comprehensive alcoholism and substance abuse history
	A psycho-social assessment
	A psychiatric evaluation and health screening
	An educational/vocational assessment
	Assignment to a 5 session Orientation group seminar
	A referral for a medical examination
	Development of an Individual Treatment Plan (including recommendations for self-help involvement)

Method of Payment

New Directions accepts three forms of payment for services:

Medicaid
An active Medicaid card is accepted for payment for all services. The Medicaid card is checked for eligibility before each session. Therefore it is necessary for the client to bring their Medicaid card each time they attend a session.

Fee based on a sliding scale
All initial intake sessions are charged a fee of $40.00. Subsequent intake sessions are charged according to the client's individual fee which has been set by the finance office. The Psychiatric Evaluation is charged at the rate of the client's individual fee. All session fees are to be paid in advance of the session.

The sliding scale is:

	Individual counseling:	$35-60
	Group counseling:	$25-40
	Family counseling:	$40-70
	Medication appointment:	$25

Insurance
New Directions is a preferred provider for most major insurance companies.
