JOB READINESS TRAINING
Active
alcohol and drug abuse often leads to interruptions in one's education and work
history. Therefore, many who enter substance abuse treatment and recovery lack
the knowledge, skills, and resources required to achieve and maintain gainful
employment.
Recovery
from substance abuse is the gradual process from dependence to independence.
Work is a reality all must face, as it allows us to contribute to society while
maintaining self-sufficiency, reinforcing self esteem, and securing
independence.
Recovery
is about becoming independent in all life areas. That's why returning to school
and or work is an integral part of the recovery process and a necessary aspect
of treatment. Once abstinence from substances is stabilized, and one has
acquired the coping skills to live without the use of alcohol and drugs, the
next step is to rebuild the outer areas of life. A person must be able to
function in, and cope with, outside responsibilities, pursue dreams and goals,
and become self-sufficient, responsible and independent -- both socially and
financially.
Returning
to school or work is a process just like recovery. It takes time, hard work, and
patience. It starts by taking the first step, and then following through, one
step at a time. The Job Readiness Program Training Program at New Directions is
designed to facilitate each stage of this process as one moves toward their goal
of becoming a productive, contributing member of society. It starts with the
first step, and leads to lasting recovery.
PARENT'S HELPER SERVICE
New Directions' Parent's
Helper Service is designed to make treatment more accessible to
parents and caregivers of small children. The Parent's Helper Service
will be available to watch children brought to New Directions while
their parent or guardian is attending their clinical session
(individual and/or group).
All clients with scheduled
appointments at New Directions may utilize the Parent's Helper
Service. Upon arriving a few minutes prior to their scheduled session,
the parent or guardian would bring their child to Room #7, the site of
the Parent's Helper Service. Upon completion of their session,
the same parent or guardian would pick their child up at Room #7.
The Parent's Helper Service
is available Monday through Saturday, from 9:40 to 3:40 PM. All
children 2 to 10 years of age are eligible. In case of special need,
the client would be called from their session to attend to the child
(example: diaper change, or behavioral problem). Under no
circumstances would a parent or legal guardian be permitted to leave
the building while their child is in the Parent's Helper Service.
